Best free GATE CSE courses on YouTube, ranked by total hours
Updated 2026-09-30 · 14 courses · totals are live
GATE CSE has nine core subjects plus engineering maths and general aptitude, and the free lectures for it on YouTube are enormous. Take one course per subject from the list below and it adds up to about 650 hours. At 1.5× and three hours a day that's around five months, before a single mock test. That is a number worth knowing in June rather than in November.
The totals are live, counted from each playlist. Several of these are still being added to, so a total that grows between visits is the course growing. The list mixes the long, question-heavy courses aimed at a top rank with shorter ones for the subjects where a short course is enough; there's a quicker route through the whole syllabus below the list.
From 5h 58m (Compiler Design — Gate Smashers) to 5d 19h 43m (Theory of Computation (TOC) for GATE — Complete Playlist).

How to choose
- First pass, or semester exams? Gate Smashers teaches every subject, and the whole set adds up to about 143 hours: the six above, plus Digital Logic, COA, TOC, DBMS, Discrete Mathematics and Linear Algebra.
- Aiming for a top rank? The GO Classes and Amit Khurana courses. They're long because they work through the previous years' questions topic by topic.
- Prefer English? GO Classes teaches in English; Gate Smashers and Amit Khurana teach in Hindi.
- Working while you prepare? Short videos survive a tired evening better than two-hour sessions. Do the Gate Smashers course for a subject first, then go back to the long one only where you're losing marks.
Plan the whole syllabus
Six hundred hours is not a number to discover in November. Open each course here, set your speed and daily hours in the planner, and it gives you a finish date; the exam guide shows how to work backwards from an exam in February. Tick videos off as you go and every date updates.
