YouTube channel length calculator

How long would it take to watch everything a channel has ever posted?

What you get

  • Total runtime of the channel's uploads, and what it becomes at 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75× and 2×.
  • Uploads by year, so you can see whether a channel is still active or wound down in 2021.
  • Average, longest and shortest video — the difference between 200 shorts and 200 lectures.
  • Every public playlist on the channel, each with its own total, calculated on demand.

That last one is the useful part for anyone learning from a channel. Creators rarely put their course in one tidy playlist; the playlist list tells you which series is twelve hours and which is forty, before you commit to either.

What counts as a channel link

Anything YouTube gives you works:

  • youtube.com/@handle — the modern form, and the one we treat as canonical
  • youtube.com/channel/UC… — the raw channel ID
  • youtube.com/c/Name or youtube.com/user/Name — the legacy forms
  • Just the handle on its own: @veritasium

All of them resolve to the same page, so a link you share keeps working.

Why the number can differ from what you expect

Three reasons, all of them honest rather than bugs:

  • Only public uploads count. Private, unlisted and members-only videos are invisible to anyone but the owner, so they are not in the total.
  • Very large channels are truncated. A channel with tens of thousands of uploads cannot be totalled inside one request, so the page says so rather than quietly reporting a partial number as if it were complete.
  • Live streams and premieres that never finished have no duration to add.

More on this in why the duration looks wrong.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find the total length of a YouTube channel?

Paste the channel link or its @handle into the box above. Every public upload's duration is added up and shown as a total, with the same number at 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75× and 2× speed.

Does it include Shorts?

Yes. Shorts are ordinary uploads as far as the API is concerned, so their duration is part of the total. A channel that posts mostly Shorts will show a large video count against a small total.

Can I see how long each playlist on the channel is?

Yes. The channel page lists every public playlist, and you can calculate lengths for them a batch at a time rather than opening each one.

Is there a limit?

Very large channels are totalled up to a cap and marked as truncated, so you always know whether the number is complete. Playlists are counted up to 5,000 videos, YouTube's own maximum.

Do I need to sign in?

No. There is no account, and nothing about you is sent to YouTube — only the public channel you asked about is looked up.
