YouTube video duration checker
How long is this video — and how long at double speed?
Why check before you click
A thumbnail tells you nothing about commitment. The duration is on the player, but only once the page has loaded, the ads have started and you are already in it. Checking first is the difference between "I have twenty minutes" and losing an hour.
It also settles the question the length alone does not answer: what the video costs you at the speed you actually watch. A 48-minute lecture is 32 minutes at 1.5× and 24 at 2× — the difference between fitting it into a commute and not.
Links that work
youtube.com/watch?v=…— the standard formyoutu.be/…— the share linkyoutube.com/shorts/…— Shorts have durations tooyoutube.com/live/…and/embed/…- The bare eleven-character video ID on its own
A watch?v=…&list=… link works as well — you get the video, plus a link to total the
whole playlist it came from.
Checking a whole playlist instead
If what you actually want is the total for a course rather than one lecture, paste the playlist link on the home page instead. You get the sum of every video, a per-video table you can tick off as you watch, and a planner that turns the total into dated study sessions. The channel length calculator does the same for every upload on a channel.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check the length of a YouTube video without watching it?
Paste the link above. The duration comes from YouTube's official API, so it is the same number the player shows, without loading the video or any ads.
How long is this video at 2× speed?
Half its length — playback speed divides the runtime exactly. The page shows 1.25×, 1.5×, 1.75× and 2× side by side so you do not have to do the arithmetic.
Does it work for Shorts and live replays?
Yes for both, once a live stream's replay exists. A stream that is still running has no final duration to report.
Can I check several videos at once?
Yes. Paste up to five links together and you get them side by side, with the shortest and longest called out.
