YouTube Music playlist length calculator

How long is that playlist or album, to the second?

How to get the link

  1. Open the playlist or album in YouTube Music, on your phone or a computer.
  2. Choose Share, then Copy link.
  3. Paste the link in the box above.

Links from music.youtube.com and youtube.com both work, and the link of a public or unlisted playlist is all it needs. There is no account, and you don't need YouTube Premium.

What you get

  • The total, to the second, with the number of songs.
  • The average, longest and shortest song.
  • Every song in a list you can sort by length, which is the quick way to find what to drop when a playlist runs long.
  • A total for part of the list, such as songs 1 to 20.
  • The time at faster speeds, useful for a podcast or a lecture whose link has list= in it.

The page calls them videos, because on YouTube's side that is what each song is.

Why it can differ from YouTube Music's number

YouTube Music rounds the figure it shows, for example "3 hours, 23 minutes". This page adds up each song's own length, which comes from the YouTube Data API, so you see the seconds too.

Songs that are private, deleted or blocked in a region have no length to add. They are left out of the total, and the page says how many there were. Why a total can look wrong has the details.

What can't be measured

  • Liked Music and private playlists. Only their owner can read them. To measure those songs, add them to a playlist set to Public or Unlisted, and paste that playlist's link.
  • Mixes and radios. YouTube Music builds these for each listener as they play, so they have no fixed list to add up.
  • YouTube Music's own playlists, such as The Hit List. YouTube's API doesn't return the list the app shows, so we refuse them rather than give a wrong total.
  • An album's page address. An address with /browse/MPREb_ in it doesn't name the album's playlist. Use Share, then Copy link, as above.

Frequently asked questions

How do I see the length of a YouTube Music playlist?

Open the playlist, choose Share, then Copy link, and paste the link in the box above. You get the total to the second and the number of songs.

Does it work with albums?

Yes. Open the album, choose Share, then Copy link, and paste that link. Album links work the same way as playlist links.

Can it read my Liked Music?

No. Liked Music is private to your account, so nothing outside it can read it. Add the songs to a public or unlisted playlist and paste that playlist's link.

Do I need YouTube Premium or an account?

No. It's free, with no account, and it only looks up the public or unlisted playlist in your link.

Why doesn't the total match YouTube Music?

YouTube Music rounds the figure it shows, and this page shows the seconds. Private, deleted and region-blocked songs are also left out here, and the page says how many.

How many songs can it read?

Up to 5,000, which is YouTube's own limit for a playlist.
