How long does it take to learn Java on YouTube? 12 free courses, measured

Updated 2026-10-27 · 7 min read

Watching a free Java course on YouTube takes 12 to 29 hours for a beginner course. We measured the nine Java courses and three Spring Boot courses on our Java list on 27 October 2026, counting every video to the last: Bro Code's is 12 hours, Telusko's 16, Alex Lee's 17 and CodeWithHarry's Hindi series 29. The middle of the nine Java courses is 29 hours.

At 1.5× speed and half an hour a day, Bro Code's course takes 17 days and Telusko's 21. The longer courses are a different kind of course. Coder Army's 63 hours and Concept && Coding's 38 go deep into memory, the JVM and threads. Kunal Kushwaha's 80 hours and Apna College's 33 teach data structures too: the Java in them is about 21 hours and 5½.

Every Java course, measured

Ranked by total. "1.5×" is the total watched at one and a half times speed, and "Avg" the average video.

Course Videos Total 1.5× Avg
Kunal: Java + DSA 69 80 h 53 h 69 m
Coder Army 57 63 h 42 h 66 m
Concept && Coding 52 38 h 25 h 44 m
Apna: Java + DSA 39 33 h 22 h 51 m
Harry: Java 113 29 h 19 h 15 m
Alex Lee 101 17 h 11 h 10 m
Telusko 106 16 h 10 h 9 m
Bro Code 71 12 h 8 h 10 m
Java Brains 85 6 h 4 h 4 m

Totals are rounded to the hour; Bro Code's course is 12 hours 2 minutes exactly, Telusko's 15 hours 42. Coder Army, Concept && Coding, Apna College and CodeWithHarry teach in Hindi, the other five in English. None of the twelve playlists has a private or deleted video. Each course name opens its live page, where the total is current and you can tick off what you have watched. The same courses are on our list of free Java courses, with notes on who each suits.

Short lessons, deep lectures, or Java with DSA

The nine are three kinds of course, and which kind you pick decides your month more than the total does.

Short lessons, 6 to 29 hours. Bro Code (12 hours), Telusko (16) and Alex Lee (17) teach the language in videos of 9 or 10 minutes on average, one idea each, and Bro Code's end in a small program, like a hangman game or an alarm clock. Telusko's last video is a 2-hour 12-minute JUnit 5 tutorial by a guest teacher, so the course itself is 13½ hours. CodeWithHarry's Hindi series is the longest of these at 29 hours because 29 of its 113 videos are practice sets and exercise solutions, 7¼ hours of them. Java Brains' 6 hours are 85 videos of 4 minutes: a fast tour for someone who already programs.

Deep lectures, 38 to 63 hours. Coder Army and Concept && Coding, both in Hindi, teach in lectures of about an hour. They are long because they explain how Java works underneath. Coder Army's 2026 course covers the basics in its first 11 videos, 13 hours, then spends 15 hours on collections, lambdas and streams and its last 13 hours on memory, garbage collection and threads, up to virtual threads.

Java with data structures, 33 to 80 hours. Kunal Kushwaha's course and Apna College's are placement courses: the language, then the data structures and interview problems. In Kunal's, the Java lessons (basics, strings, the seven OOP lectures and file handling) come to 21 hours; 57 hours are data structures and algorithms, including a 5-hour video of binary tree questions and a 4-hour one of binary search questions. In Apna College's, the language takes about 5½ hours of 33, and the last video, on graphs, is 6 hours 44 minutes on its own, a fifth of the course.

Days to finish at half an hour or an hour a day

How many days each course takes at 1.5×, watching every day.

Course Hours 30 min a day 1 h a day
Java Brains 6 8 days 4 days
Bro Code 12 17 days 9 days
Telusko 16 21 days 11 days
Alex Lee 17 23 days 12 days
CodeWithHarry 29 39 days 20 days
Apna: Java + DSA 33 45 days 23 days
Concept && Coding 38 51 days 26 days
Coder Army 63 84 days 42 days
Kunal: Java + DSA 80 107 days 54 days

These are days of video. You learn Java by writing it, so add the time to type along and do the exercises, and treat these days as the floor. Speed costs less on lectures than on code-alongs, where you pause anyway (what 1.5× and 2× cost →).

Then Spring Boot

Most Java jobs ask for Spring Boot, and the three courses on our list take 9 to 28 hours.

Course Videos Total 1.5×
Concept && Coding (Hindi) 44 28 h 19 h
Engineering Digest (Hindi) 47 16 h 11 h
Telusko 41 9 h 6 h

Telusko's is the gentlest, Engineering Digest's builds one app from an empty project to a server, and Concept && Coding's goes deepest on what interviews ask. Put together, the shortest route from no Java to a Spring Boot app is Bro Code then Telusko's Spring course: 21 hours, 14 at 1.5×. The longest, Coder Army then Concept && Coding's Spring Boot, is 91 hours.

Check the total covers every video

Some playlist length tools add up only the first 100 videos and stop without saying so. Three of these playlists are longer than that: CodeWithHarry's 113 videos, Telusko's 106 and Alex Lee's 101. On Telusko's that misses 3 hours, the JUnit tutorial among them, and on CodeWithHarry's 3 hours of the last chapters. If a total looks short for a playlist with more than 100 videos, here is how to check it.

Plan the one you choose

Paste the course's link on the home page, or click its name in the tables above, and set your daily minutes in the planner: it gives you a finish date and the videos for each day, and you can put the sessions in your calendar. Tick each video as you finish it and the time left updates; the course stays in your list on the home page, so you can pick it up where you stopped. For placements, the DSA guide measures ten data structures courses, and how long a free YouTube course is compares Java with 23 other subjects.

Frequently asked

How many hours is Bro Code's Java course?

Bro Code's Java tutorial for beginners is 12 hours 2 minutes over 71 videos, measured on 27 October 2026, with videos of about 10 minutes that each end in a small program. At 1.5× that is 8 hours.

How long is Kunal Kushwaha's Java + DSA course?

79 hours 35 minutes over 69 videos. It is two courses in one: the Java lessons come to about 21 hours, and the other 57 are data structures, algorithms and interview questions. At 1.5× and an hour a day it takes 54 days.

Can I learn Java in a month from YouTube?

You can watch a beginner course in a month: Telusko's at 1.5× is 21 days at half an hour a day, and Bro Code's 17. Add the time to write code yourself, which is what makes it stick. A month is enough for the language, not for Spring Boot or data structures on top.

Which free Java course is the shortest?

Java Brains' Java Essentials is 6 hours over 85 short videos, but it is a quick tour for people who already program. For a complete beginner, Bro Code's course is the shortest at 12 hours.

How long is Coder Army's Java course?

Rohit Negi's Java Full Course 2026 is 62 hours 46 minutes over 57 lectures in Hindi, about an hour each. The basics are the first 13 hours; the rest goes into OOP, collections, streams, memory and threads.
